The Desolation
The Desolation (originally caused by Bel-Sharoth's legions of undead. Exacerbated by demons) – Long before the demon threat, the armies of Bel-Sharoth, the Lich King, swept down from the Citadel of Dusk, destroying all in their path and eventually creating the Desolation. Part of the Old Empire, these lands had once been verdant, gently undulating farmlands, with a thriving coastal community. There were many ports along its coasts and gold was shipped up from dwarf mines in the Grey Mtns, along with shipment of lema roots which grew well in these soils. When the undead came, the crops withered and died and countless people lost their lives. The magic that had brought them to life was fed by taking the life from the very land itself. Even now, millennia afterwards, nothing will grow here. The land is dusty and barren and the dead still wander aimlessly. Demons that find their way across the Grey Mtns, through its cave systems or by flying over them, often take up residence here too. Their unnatural influence helps to keep the land in its current condition
