Located in the Griffin Peaks. This is a hollow volcano, once lived in by a great (and somewhat insane) wizard. Now populated by countless bizarre - and not necessarily benign - creatures created by him, by accident or on purpose. At the bottom of the Abyss lies the Well of Souls. Through this, Darkling can be summoned.
Darkling is one of the thirteen Servitors of Kalganos, the Dragon King. He is Servitor representative of black dragons. Although he is a servant dedicated to the preservation of dragonkind, like all his brethren, Darkling is completely evil and wielded the soul-drinking Deathblade.
The Black Abyss is often visited by heroes, eager to test their mettle against the denizens of the abyss, or enticed by the tales of great treasure and magically artifacts (which, incidentaly, are true!). Not that many return from its depths, though and no one is entirely sure as to what else lurks behind the huge, magically guarded iron doors that serve as the only point of access and egress.
