Celeburn Watchtower (ruin)

Before the time of the Demon Wars, Celeburn was a highly prosperous area of the Old Empire. The valley of Celeburn, located in a large valley in the Northern Reach, was a rich land for crops to grow in and precious ores were also mined in the area. The city, of the same name, lay in the heart of the valley and was a prosperous and important trade centre.

The entire valley was overlooked by its Watchtower, and austere tower perched upon a granite outcrop atop cliffs directly above the city that offered views of the entire region. During the Demon Wars, a huge strikeforce of demons was sent to Celeburn as part of a multiple offensive against the Old Empire's heartland regions. It is said that succubi came to the watchtower, seducing the men there so that the demon horde could sweep into the valley unnoticed. Without the watch beacon to alert the army and militia, there was no time to prepare for the attack and the entire population was overrun and destroyed. The only building that remains (at least partly) intact from that dreadful day is the ruin of the Watchtower.

Strangely, after such a massive victory, the demonic army crumbled soon after the battle was won and was decimated by a combined force of elves, dwaves and humans. It is said the demons' general was sickened by his army's behaviour in victory (raping and inflicting unmentionable torture upon the survivors) and so abandoned them. Without an iron hand to guide them, the demon ranks fell into a shamble due to their chaotic nature and so they were easily destroyed.

To this day, no one has dared settle in Celeburn valley and it remains a forgotten place, where the spirits of those innocents who died in torment are bound to walk the earth and nothing will grow in earth tainted by thier blood. The watchtower is also haunted, by those who left their guard and failed to warn the poor valley's inhabitants of the danger approaching from the east.
